The Aksarben Purple Ribbon Auction takes place at the culmination of the week's activities and serves as the fundraising vehicle for the Aksarben scholarship program. Annually, hundreds of youth participate in the Aksarben Stock Show from a 14-state region including Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming showing cattle, sheep, swine and goats.
In 2019, 36 youth exhibitors
were awarded the opportunity to sell their champion animals at the Aksarben Purple Ribbon Auction receiving a scholarship, cash award and prizes.
Youth exhibitors work with and care for their animals by providing shelter, pasture, feed, veterinary check-ups, transportation and showing expenses. The cost however of raising an animal is easily in the thousands of dollars. The life lessons learned in agriculture and education are valuable. The Aksarben Stock Show holds a Purple Ribbon Auction to reward the "future leaders."
The grand champion title (purple ribbon) is the highest honor an exhibitor can obtain. It signifies they have worked hard, put in long hours dedicated to making their animal show at the competition. this parallels other youth sports with state titles and regional championships.
