Goat Information

Market Goat Show

  • To be eligible for exhibition, the youth must have owned and cared for the animal by July 1st of the current year.
  • All market goats must be born after January 1 of the current year. Goats are to have milk teeth but there shall be no evidence of breaking of the skin or eruption of the two permanent front teeth. Goats may be mouthed at the show.
  • Positive identification is required on all market goat entries in the form of an EID tag.
  • Positive DNA identification is achieved by submitting DNA hair samples on all goats that are being considered for exhibition by July 1st.
  • Submission of a DNA hair sample DOES NOT qualify as an entry.
  • After entry, exhibitors may substitute animals for the show providing that DNA hair samples from goats being considered for substitution are on file with Aksarben officials.
Weight Declaration
  • Exhibitors will self-declare the market goat’s weight(s) utilizing a weigh-card system. All weigh-cards will be due at check-in. No changes will be allowed to the weigh-card once submitted.
  • Show management reserves the right to reweigh first, second and third place animals and/or division winners. A 5lb variance from weigh-in weight will be allowed. Animals not meeting the 5lb variance either above or below the weigh-in weight will not be eligible for any champion awards.
  • The minimum weight for goats will be 50 pounds with no maximum weight limit. Goats weighing less than 50 pounds will be ineligible for further competitions and no premiums.
  • Goats must have all blankets pulled at the time of check-in.
Show Structure
  • Market goats will be divided into an appropriate number of divisions in regards to the weight range.
  • Market goats (does and wethers) will be shown together.
  • Market Goats will be shown light to heavy.
  • The top two animals from each class will compete for Division Champion and Reserve Division Champion. The Division Champion and Reserve Division Champion will compete for Grand Champion Market Goat and Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat.
  • Six market goats will be selected for sale in the Purple Ribbon Auction (six head). They include Grand and Reserve Champion Market Goat, plus four head as lined up in the show ring by the official Judge with the support of the Stock Show Management

Breeding Doe Show

  • To be eligible for exhibition, breeding does must be owned by the exhibitor prior to July 1st of the current year.
  • All breeding does must be identified with an official USDA scrapie identification tag.
  • To be eligible for the commercial breeding doe class, each doe must have a known birthdate and be identified by an official USDA scrapie identification tag.
  • Breeding Does will be required to be entered during the entry period.
  • Exhibitor changes of an animal from the registered class to the commercial class will not be allowed after the official entry deadline.
Show Structure
  • Classes in the Breeding Doe Show will be divided into divisions.
  • Does will be divided by age within the division. Class sizes will be determined by Show officials based on the number of animals at check-in.
  • Does will enter the ring by age, show management may combine classes until they reach a minimum class size deemed appropriate.
  • The top two animals from each division will compete for Supreme Champion Breeding Doe. Reserve Champion Breeding Doe thru 5th Place Breeding Doe.
